Students of Trickfilmklasse Kassel present things that they regret. From Decembre 2nd until March 4th 2018 in Sepulkralmuseum (one of Europe’s few museums for death culture and ancestry worship).
REGRET
It is the fourth season of the international collaboration between the madagascan film festival Recontres du Film Court (RFC), the Kasseler Dokfest and the Trickfilmklasse Kassel. If one opens the catalogues of 2014/15/16, he or she might have read the introductory paragraphs about the origins of the madagascan cinema, its decline and its new invention about 10 years ago. One will discover information about Laza, the filmmaker and producer who has returned to his homeland, recovering only abandoned echos of the film landscape that he knew and decided to found a film festival. The RFC was designed to provide a platform for a new generation of madagascan filmmakers for future development.
Them & Us – Lawrence Agbetsise – Dokumentation – Ghana – 2016 – 13:52 – Englisch/UT Englisch
Since then the festival and its program is constantly changing. The RFC developed from a two-day event which screened regional and national films only, to a international event that lasts 10 days, welcomes over 20k visitors in this period, screens several hundred films and receives film entries from the whole continent (Africa).
I want to make a movie – Nathaniela R. Randrianomearisoa – Experimentaldokumentation – Madagaskar – 2016 – 7:27 – Malagasy/UT Englisch
The program starts with a madagascan film that perfectly represents the emotions of a young generation of african filmmakers: “I want to make a movie” by Nathaniela R. Randrianomearisoa is equally surreal as technically flawed. Nonetheless it demonstrates the need to get a camera and tell a story. In the spirit of development the program continues with four productions from various african countries. Each of them was shown in the contest of the RFC. In this sense the meeting with Madagascar is really a meeting with the whole african continent.

An unaccomplishable dream, a choleric teacher, a lost mother, no shoes, no money, no hope and in the end an unpleasant gaze into the future.
Also this year, the popular gallery party took place in the Südstadt of Kassel. The galleries presented a varied program of exhibitions and concerts, entry was free. And the Trickfilmklasse was part of it.

The location of the Trickfilmklasse exhibition wasn’t an ordinary one – in the studio of Wasserbetten (waterbeds) at station Weinberg. The audience had the opportunity to lounge on very pillowy mattresses and to enjoy the films in a relaxed atmosphere with candle lights.
The Trickfilmklasse says thank you to the owners Peter and Irina Ritter, for the opportunity to present their films in this special way and for the nice and energetic support. We like to be there next year too!

About Galeriefest at the Südstadt of Kassel

This spring, the collaboration between the Trickfilmklasse Kassel and the Recontres du Film Court (RFC) goes into the fourth season. In April Theresa Grysczok will travel to Antananarivo where she will lead several animation workshops of her signature animation style #stop-motion. Additionally she will show selected works of the Trickfilmklasse.
Our collaboration with the festival began with a visit of four filmmakers of Madagasca to Kassel in spring 2014. Over several days the worked with students of the Trickfilmklasse and created a portmanteau film with the title »Dreams«.
In spring three students of Trickfilmklasse went to Madagascar for the first, and visited the RFC. There they created a second short film with the title »Zoma«. Since then we cultivated the exchange and organized screenings and trips between Germany and Madagascar.
