ckollision – human plays machine plays human plays machine

To what extent does an increased focus on digital media influence the perception of my own reality? How do we filter playfully information and what is the impact of immersion on my own psyche?

Students of the School of Art and Design Kassel together with computer scientists of the University of Kassel present answers to these questions. By invitation of the 34 th Kasseler Dokumentarfilm- und Videofest they organise an exhibition where video games, interactive installations and VR experiments are presented in an artistic context.

The hand that draws explores materials on a haptic level while it is directly linked to the technological interface of the future, where computer games, installation works, and virtually real experiments establish themselves as forms of creative expression. The interplay of systematic research and inventive curiosity reflects autonomous approaches of working with computers and points indirectly to the key visual of the current Dokfest.

The impulse for the organisation and selection of this year’s exhibition contributions from Kassel was given by the team of the animation class, where animation is taught as a form of artistic expression in the department of visual communication. What helps is the physical and organisational proximity to visual arts, graphic design, new media and film departments as part of the School of Art and Design Kassel.

From this base, paths open up to the wide variety of modern animation, from digital production to experimental techniques, to interactive narrative forms and transmedia dissemination.

Madagascar @ Kasseler Dokfest w/ Trickfilmklasse Kassel

The Trickfilmklasse Kassel presents in cooperation with  Kasseler Dokfest the film program:

Madagaskar begegnen 4 – Entwicklung (Meeting Madagascar 4 – development)

Jeux d’enfants – Gilde Razafitsihadinoina – Dokumentation – Madagascar – 2017 – 24:27 – Malagasy/UT Englisch

It is the fourth season of the international collaboration between the madagascan film festival Recontres du Film Court (RFC), the Kasseler Dokfest and the Trickfilmklasse Kassel.  If one opens the catalogues of 2014/15/16, he or she might have read the introductory paragraphs about the origins of the madagascan cinema,  its decline and its new invention about 10 years ago. One will discover information about Laza, the filmmaker and producer who has returned to his homeland, recovering only abandoned echos of the film landscape that he knew and decided to found a film festival. The RFC was designed to provide a platform for a new generation of madagascan filmmakers for future development.

Them & Us – Lawrence Agbetsise – Dokumentation – Ghana – 2016 – 13:52 – Englisch/UT Englisch

Since then the festival and its program is constantly changing. The RFC developed from a two-day event which screened regional and national films only, to a international event that lasts 10 days, welcomes over 20k visitors in this period, screens several hundred films and receives film entries from the whole continent (Africa).

I want to make a movie – Nathaniela R. Randrianomearisoa – Experimentaldokumentation – Madagaskar – 2016 – 7:27 – Malagasy/UT

The program starts with a madagascan film that perfectly represents the emotions of a young generation of african filmmakers: “I want to make a movie” by Nathaniela R. Randrianomearisoa is equally surreal as technically flawed. Nonetheless it demonstrates the need to get a camera and tell a story. In the spirit of development the program continues with four productions from various african countries. Each of them was shown in the contest of the RFC. In this sense the meeting with Madagascar is really a meeting with the whole african continent.

An amateur without resources and no financing searches for an opportunity.

For four years my father spends his retirement in the mosque. He distants himself from his family. I almost never encounter him at home. His absense destroys my childhood.

REVIEW: Galleriefest 2017

Also this year, the popular gallery party took place in the Südstadt of Kassel. The galleries presented a varied program of exhibitions and concerts, entry was free. And the Trickfilmklasse was part of it.

Who hadn’t seen the program of Trickreich 17, or just wanted to watch his or her favorite films again, could have done this at the weekend of May 19th – 21st 2017.

The location of the Trickfilmklasse exhibition wasn’t an ordinary one – in the studio of Wasserbetten (waterbeds) at station Weinberg. The audience had the opportunity to lounge on very pillowy mattresses and to enjoy the films in a relaxed atmosphere with candle lights.

The Trickfilmklasse says thank you to the owners Peter and Irina Ritter, for the opportunity to present their films in this special way and for the nice and energetic support. We like to be there next year too!

– 5. Mai die FMX, Conference on Animation, Effects, Games und Transmedia unter dem Motto »Beyond the Screen« statt. Die Trickfilmklasse präsentierte sich und ihren Studiengang an einem von den Studierenden designten Stand.

Trickfilmklasse Kassel in Madagascar

This spring, the collaboration between the Trickfilmklasse Kassel and the Recontres du Film Court (RFC) goes into the fourth season. In April Theresa Grysczok will travel to Antananarivo where she will lead several animation workshops of her signature animation style #stop-motion. Additionally she will show selected works of the Trickfilmklasse.

Our collaboration with the festival began with a visit of four filmmakers of Madagasca to Kassel in spring 2014. Over several days the worked with students of the Trickfilmklasse and created a portmanteau film with the title »Dreams«.
In spring three students of Trickfilmklasse went to Madagascar for the first, and visited the RFC. There they created a second short film with the title »Zoma«. Since then we cultivated the exchange and organized screenings and trips between Germany and Madagascar.

Trickreich 17 review

Once a year every student of the Trickfilmklasse has the opportunity to present his or her work on the big screen.

On February 8th to 10th the 17th season of Trickreich film programm was screened at Gloria Cinema in Kassel. As every year this years selection was excitingly diverse. The audience was captured by a variety of different worlds, experienced many thoughts, emotions and visions of the aspiring film makers who showed their individual signature styles. On February 8th the premiere was opened by Prof. Martina Bramkamp and Prof. Thomas Meyer-Hermann.

Between each of the three segments the film makers introduced themselves to the audience, quickly stating their name and their featured work. After the offical screening they took questions from the audience in the lounge. The Q&A was continued later at the FES where the opening night party was held.
